  25. CHAMP Galaxian is based on the Atari classic from the early 1980's.  Almost
  26. 3 months of work has gone into this project.  The game features spectacular
  27. 256-color VGA graphics and superb gameplay which closely resembles the
  28. original.

  38. This is the shareware version of CHAMP Galaxian.  As shareware, you
  39. may try the game for a period of 30 days without any charge, after which
  40. the registration fee is required.  Registration benefits are outlined in
  41. the Ordering Info selection in the Main Menu of the game.

  43. Feel free to distribute this copy of CHAMP Galaxian to any friends or
  44. other bulletin boards, provided that every file (including this text file)
  45. that was downloaded is included.

  73. To start CHAMP Galaxian, switch to the directory where the game was
  74. downloaded and unzipped and type GALAX_LT and press ENTER.
  75.    
  76. The CHAMProgramming title screen will appear.  Press any key or any button to 
  77. continue.  After the credits, the Registration screen will appear.  Hit any 
  78. key to go to the Main Menu.  The following are the Main Menu options.  Use 
  79. the arrow keys to select the option and press ENTER on that option to do it.

  87. New Game =>             Starts a new game.

  111. The following hotkeys can be pressed at the Main Menu.

  113.     * Pressing 'D' will initiate the demonstration.  
  114.       Press ESC to quit the demo and return to the Main Menu.

  116.     * Pressing F10 will start a New Game, as will pressing Button 1
  117.       on the joystick or the left button on the mouse.

  119.     * Pressing F2 will toggle the number of players.
  120.  
  121.     * Pressing Ctrl-A will calibrate the joystick.

  123.     * Pressing the spacebar will show the highscores (full version only)
  124.  
  125.     * Pressing ESC will either exit the program or abort a game in 
  126.       progress.  Pressing Button 2 on the joystick or the right button 
  127.       on mouse will perform the same task.

  131. The Game Options Menu allows you to set specific options about the game.
  132. The following are the Game Options.  Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to 
  133. select an option.  Use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to change an option.
  134. Press RETURN on an option to load it's default value.

  140. 1-2 Player Game =>      How many players for the game.  You may also press F2
  141.             at the Main Menu to toggle the number of players.
  142.  
  143. Starting level =>       This is the level the game will start on.  The four
  144.             starting levels are the Red flag, the Yellow flag,
  145.             the Blue Flag, and the Green flag.  You can only  
  146.             start on the Red or Yellow flag in the lite version.

  148. Player 1-2 Skill: =>    Easy: Enemies attack and fire less.
  149.             Arcade: Most closely resembles the Arcade game.  
  150.             Hard: Enemies attack and fire more frequently.

  154. The System Options Menu allows you to specify the sound, speed and controls
  155. you wish to use.  The following are the System Options:

  161. Player 1-2 Control =>   This can be either a Joystick, Mouse, a Left Keyboard,
  162.             or a Right Keyboard.  Note that you must first Enable 
  163.             Joystick before it can be selected as a control 
  164.             (see below).

  166. Sound is ON/OFF =>      Toggles the sound on and off.  Note that F9 can
  167.             be pressed during the game to toggle the sound.
  168.  
  169. Delay is ... =>         Set the amount of delay to slow down or speed up
  170.             game play.  The larger the number, the slower the game.
  171.  
  172. Enable Joystick/ =>     Enables or disables the joystick.

  175. Calibrate Joystick =>   Runs the calibration routine for the joystick.
  176.             If the joystick doesn't calibrate correctly, try to
  177.             adjust the sensitivity by pressing Button 1.  Note  
  178.             that the higher the sensitivity setting, the slower
  179.             the game will be.  In this case, you can adjust the
  180.             game speed using the + and - keys during the game or
  181.             you can lower the delay (see above).

  189. The object of CHAMP Galaxian is to destroy as many waves of enemy spacecrafts
  190. as possible while shooting for the highest score and avoiding the alien
  191. missiles.  You start the game with 3 fighters.  You get extra fighters by  
  192. shooting the enemies for points.  Bonus fighters are awarded for 5,000 points,
  193. 20,000 points, and every 20,000 points after.  The game ends when your last
  194. fighter is destroyed.

  196. NOTE:   There are 16 levels in the shareware version.  The full version has
  197.     64 levels, as well as more enemy flying patterns.

  205. * When the enemy attacks in a cluster of 3, you receive 800 bonus points
  206.   for destroying the 2 Red Escorts and then the Yellow Leader last.
  207.  
  208. * If you destroy a Yellow Leader in flight, the other enemies will mourn
  209.   his death by not firing for 2 seconds.  Use this to blast them while
  210.   they're down!
  211.  
  212. * Joystick users can press Button 2 during a game to abort the game.  Mouse 
  213.   users press the right mouse button and keyboard users can press ESC.  This 
  214.   will bring up the Main Menu.
  215.  
  216. * An icon file called GALAXIAN.ICO is included for use in Windows.
  217.  
  218. * There are 2 keyboard controls: Left and Right.  The left keyboard uses
  219.   Ctrl to move left and Alt to move right; the right keyboard uses the
  220.   opposite.  Both use Shift to fire.
